The Rig Walk Around you've all been waiting for. Illness stopped us from getting this filmed whilst we were in the Pyrenees, but here it is, the walk around of Paul's heavily modified Land Rover Discovery.
About Chris MarperThis author has not yet filled in any details.
So far Chris Marper has created 10 blog entries.
After a fantastic night Wild Camping, it's time to set off along "Marper's Trail" once again. How will today's adventure go? Well, within 90secs, Paul has had the front wheels in the air, and now theirs a bog to cross that may just be too soft to get the vehicles through. So, stay tuned, it's time to get the cameras out and bring you the action.
The recent rain has certainly made the trails more interesting. So stick around, watch Ang scream as we push her driving skills in the truck, listen to our thoughts on our first night in the new hard top Tuff-Trek roof top tents, and we get the L200 stuck in the mud.. or rather Ang does... but then we don't have 4 wheel drive... not till Chris fixes it... MacGyver style!!
This 2003 Mitsubishi L200 Warrior has been completely transformed over the last 2yrs, wholly due to the help, support and crazy fabrication skills of Paul. 2019 saw the most extreme changes yet, with a tray back transformation, aluminium canopy and hard top roof tent, along with a complete engine rebuild to finally eliminate last year's issues of over-heating, oil leaks and lack of power.
What a trip 2019 was to be. Stopped at customs before we even left the country, a long drive across France to even start the adventure, an ambulance for And, sickness and fever for Paul and a long drive back across France to return home.
Join Paul, Chris and the 2 Chipmunks for a completely un-edited Base Camp chat at the end of the Pyrenees 2019 adventure. They discuss the pros and the cons of the vehicles, what they would do different next time, give a shout out to a subscriber in Scotland, who chopped his Discovery in two on a whim, and they keep getting interrupted by the two chipmunks just off camera.
Despite rumours, Paul and Chris hadn't fallen out and gone their separate ways! Nothing as simple as that. Instead, Angela had gone down with a kidney infection and been rushed to hospital, Paul & Karren continued their journey before this happened, yet still suffered health complications, and Chris and Karren were left to keep the adventure alive.
Paul still hadn't found the right solution to cope with the additional weight at the rear of the Discovery, especially now with the new swing out wheel carrier. The solution, weld the spring cups from a Defender 110 and fit Terrafirma +500kg Heavy Duty springs to the Discovery.
What does 6 beers, a CV joint that needs a grinder to remove, deadlines for the next trip approaching and a warm sunny day make for? Paul & Chris in a much more relaxed approach to video making.... enjoy the banter.
The final part in this series of building a custom swing out wheel carrier for the Land Rover Discovery. A huge undertaking and test of Paul's fabrication skills, but it turns out absolutely superb and should be up for the job of the trek across the Pyrenees mountains the following month.
